The Van Galen Laboratory studies molecular mechanisms that sustain the human blood system throughout life. Specific projects focus hematopoietic stem cell biology, diminished immune cell function with age and changes that underly the development of blood cancer (leukemia). We develop and apply new methods to analyze blood cells, including sequencing technologies to acquire information from single cells, and computational innovations to integrate multiple layers of information. The goal is to leverage newly gained knowledge to improve people’s health.
