Fellowship Incentive Policy

Effective July 1, 2025 the HMS OGE PhD Programs Fellowship Incentive Bonus will be paused.

The HMS Office for Graduate Education Phd Programsn encourages students at all stages of graduate study to apply for external funding. In addition to the academic honor that such fellowships confer on the student, both the school and the student's dissertation advisor benefit from the support provided by such awards. To encourage and incentivize students to continue to apply for these awards – and to thank them for their outstanding work – HMS OGE PhD Programs offers a stipend incentive to students who receive select extramural competitively-awarded fellowships.

Effective July 1, 2023, HMS OGE Phd Program students who receive an external competitively awarded fellowship with stipend exceeding $10,000, that does not provide its own educational allowance, will receive a monthly bonus of $325 while being supported by their award.

The bonus will be paid to the student HMS OGE PhD Programs in the G1/G2 years and it is expected that dissertation advisors will continue to support this in years G3 and above.
