Fellowships

There is a wide array of external predoctoral science fellowship funds (i.e., from non-Harvard funding sources) available to PhD students. These non-Harvard resources can be used to help support--or even augment--the University's financial aid package, and we encourage you to look them over.  Harvard Griffin GSAS maintains an extensive Carat Database of fellowships and we have also curated a list of fellowships that are most relevant to our students below.

All HMS OGE PhD Program students wishing to apply for an NIH F31 Fellowship must do so through OGE, not through the hospitals or HMS departments. To schedule your individual fellowship counseling session, please contact DMSGrants@hms.harvard.edu.

Albert J. Ryan Fellowship

The Albert J. Ryan Foundation was established in 1967 by Alice M. Ryan of Cincinnati in memory of her father. Miss Ryan wished to recognize and encourage the development of students at Dartmouth College, Harvard University, and the University of Cincinnati who "show promise of becoming research scholars and who show a capacity to contribute to the advancement of medical science." For more information, please see the Ryan Fellowship webpage
